Otter Newsletter for Week of Nov. 30, 2008

Our first dual meet is this Saturday, Dec. 6, at Cumberland Valley High School.  Sign-ups to participate in the meet (or to volunteer as a parent to help at the meet) are now available at the desk outside the locker room.  Please sign up to swim (both yes and no for this meet and all of the season dual meets) and volunteer by Monday, Dec. 1.  If you cannot sign up at the pool, swimmer sign ups can be EMAILED to JIM at jgardner@acschools.org. As for volunteers, CV is an 8 lane pool, so we need 18 timers (2 shifts of 8 plus 2 back ups), 2 finish judges, 4 stroke and turn judges, 2 recall starters, 2 ribbon writers, and at least 8 line-up ladies or dads to help get the kids to the blocks.  Please consider what you can do to help the meet run smoothly for our swimmers and coaches.

For those participating in the meet, plan to be ON DECK by 7:45 a.m.  To get to Cumberland Valley High School from the LVC pool, take 81 South to the Mechanicsburg (Rt. 114) exit.  At the light at the top of the exit ramp, turn left onto 114 and follow for several miles until you hit the intersection of 114 with Rt. 11. There will be a Giant Foods/Sheetz to your right and Silver Springs Commons on your left.  At the red light of the intersection of 114 and Rt. 11, turn right onto Rt. 11.  Follow Rt. 11 through two traffic lights.  You will see Cumberland Valley High School on your right.  Turn right into the complex, and follow the directions for the Natatorium.  (After turning into the Cumberland Valley complex, you will end up circling around the building counterclockwise to park near the tennis courts.  Use the entrance that has a large “CV” above it.)

For meet day emergencies ONLY, (i.e. your child signed up for the meet but woke up throwing up and now won’t be coming, you got a flat tire, etc.), call Jim’s cell phone at 270-7012 or David’s cell phone at 644-1220.

For those who ordered, team suits and caps will be available for pick-up on Wednesday, Dec. 3 from 5-7 or Thursday, Dec. 4 from 5:30-6:30 in the lobby outside the pool area.  If you missed the opportunity to order suits in October and would still like to order one, you may obtain a team suit by contacting our vendor, Tom at T and T Swimming, at 656-8987.  Also, the Lower Dauphin Swim Team uses the same suit, and they have several extra new suits from their order this year.  The prices are $50 for female suits and $40 for male jammers.  Sizes available:  female - 34, 34, 26, 26; male - 32, 36.  If interested, please contact Tracy Cooper, tracyac15@hotmail.com.

As the weather turns frosty, please note that cancellations are always posted first on the Otter website.  We will also try to send out an email, but the website is the FIRST method of notification.  When in doubt, check the website, and always use your best judgment even if practice hasn’t been officially cancelled.

Were you hoping to order some Otter wear for your swimmers (or yourself) this season?  We are hoping that someone who enjoys “designing” team apparel and accessories will volunteer to be our Otter Wear Coordinator.  If interested, email Rachiele Peters at rachiele_peters@pasd.us.

Addendum To Otter Newsletter for Week of November 30

Sorry for all the additions, everyone.  There is always a flurry of activity the week of our first meet.

A request from Jim:  If you have not signed up for all of the meets (yes or no) yet, please do so IMMEDIATELY.  Email him at jgardner@acschools.org or, at the very latest, see him at practice tonight.  Also, if you are new to the Otter competitive team but have competed in the past with another swim team, please email Jim your best times in every event you have swum.  Please indicate whether the times are yards or meters.  This action will help Jim properly place your child in the meet.

A request from Rachiele Peters: Our volunteer sheet normally kept at the desk is AWOL.  If you are willing to help time, finish judge, or line up kids this week at CV, please EMAIL Rachiele at rachiele_peters@pasd.us.  Also, if you would be willing to serve as a head timer caring for watches and overseeing our timers at meets, please email Rachiele.

A request from Mindy Nguyen: Please check the ribbon boxes at the desk this week before Saturday’s meet to remove any summer items remaining.

See everyone on deck Saturday at 7:45!
