Otter Newsletter for Week of June 25, 2007

Congratulations, Otters, on your win over Hummelstown on Saturday!  And thanks to all the parents who served as volunteers.

For those that signed up, the Hummelstown Relays are tomorrow, Monday, June 25.  The meet begins at 5.  Our warm-ups are at 4.  Plan on arriving 15 minutes early so that Jim can take attendance.  If you signed up, please attend.  There is a great deal of paperwork that goes into this meet, and for each relay, three relay swimmers depend on the fourth swimmer showing up.  If you have an emergency and cannot attend at the last minute, please call Jim’s cell at 270-7012.  If you do not get Jim live, call Kathy Wingert at 507-9896.

The Relay meet is held at the same pool as our dual meet this past Saturday.  Our team is charged $10.00 per relay or $2.50 per swimmer in each event.  Although we do not automatically assess swimmers a charge for participation, we do appreciate donations to offset the team’s costs.  Kathy Wingert will have a donation envelope at the meet.  Please consider a donation of $5.00 per swimmer (or even $2.50 per event) if you are able.

Our next dual meet is this Saturday, June 30th, at home against Heatherfield.  Be there at 7:00 a.m. for warm-ups.  Heatherfield beat Palmyra by a large margin, so we should have a very competitive meet.  Swimmers, please sign up to swim by Tuesday.

Home meets require even a greater commitment from our wonderful parent volunteers.  Here’s what we need:

1) Big, strong dads and other helpers to arrive at the pool on Friday night at 7:00 to begin setting up and, eventually, installing the bulkhead.  Dads, this usually ends up being a lot of fun for the men, who often go out to Napoli’s afterwards.

2) Parents to sign up to work the meet.  In addition to the personnel we need at away meets, we have additional needs for bake sale workers, runners, announcers, and computer gurus.  Sign up on the sheets at practice.

3) Food for the bake sale.  If we don’t have it, we can’t sell it, and your kids can’t eat it.  Instead of assigning items to people, we ask you to sign up in a donation slot on the bake sale “needs sheets” at practice.  If you have more than one child, we appreciate if you sign up for two slots.  Even if your child is not swimming in the meet, your contribution to the bake sale table is expected and appreciated.

Otter items for sale or pick up:

1)  The second batch of team t-shirts will be available for distribution at practice on Friday morning.  If you ordered a shirt, please come to practice on Friday or arrange to have someone pick up your order.  Pam Long (thanks, Pam!) is in charge.

2)   If you swam this winter and did not pick up your team gift at the winter banquet, come to the bake sale area at our home meets.  The gifts will be there.

3)  We will have a limited amount of old Otter paraphernalia available for purchase at our home meets in the bake sale area.  These items include bathing caps and lunch bags for a reasonable cost.

Team pictures will be taken on Wednesday, June 27.  Individual photos for little ones will be held at 8.  The team picture will be snapped at 8:30.  Individual pictures of older kids will be taken after the team photo.  Forms are available at practice.
