Otter Newsletter for Week of June 18, 2007
Congratulations, Otters, on your 520- 455 win over Palmyra on Saturday. Your team spirit and Otter pride carried the day.
This week’s meet is away against Hummelstown. Please sign up to swim and volunteer on the sheets at practice. For those attending, be there at 7:45 a.m. The meet starts at 8:30. To get to the Hummelstown Pool from the Annville/Lebanon area, follow Rt. 322W to Hummelstown exit. Turn right onto Quarry Rd. Follow Quarry Rd. to the stop sign. Turn left onto Main St. At first light turn right onto North Hanover St. Follow North Hanover through light at RR underpass. Turn right on Kokomo Ave. approximately 100 meters beyond the underpass. Do not cross the Swatara Creek. Follow Kokomo to pool on right. (To get to the pool if you are Coach Steve, you know where you are going!)
Please note: The Hummelstown pool is a yards pool, so times will seem fast!
For those that signed up with David or Jim, the relay carnival hosted by Hummelstown Swim Team is next Monday evening. Warm-ups begin in the afternoon. The meet starts at 5 and is held rain or shine. The relay carnival is held at the same pool as this Saturday’s dual meet.
Team pictures have been postponed until Wednesday, June 27. Picture forms are available at practice.
Team t-shirts—If you ordered and paid for a team shirt but have not yet picked it up, please do so. They will be available Wednesday through Friday from 7:30-8:30 at the pool. AND, if your swimmer or parent did not order a shirt but would now like to, we have decided to place a second order. Pam Long is coordinating the second batch. Sign-up sheets and a payment envelope will be at practice beginning tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. They are still $12.00, and you must still prepay by check. (NO CASH, PLEASE!) Pam will accept orders through Saturday’s meet. They will be delivered to you at practice on Friday, June 29. Parents, these shirts would be fun to wear at our dual meets and at the All-Star Meet, when they will highlight the visible army of Otter volunteers.
Speaking of the All-Star Meet . . . We are fast approaching our ONLY team fundraiser of the year—the hosting of Mid-Penn All-Star Swimming Meet—scheduled for Sunday morning, July 22. We now have hosted this meet for two years, and it has been a HUGE fundraising success for our team. The proceeds have helped finance the purchase of the team shed, the team laptop computer, a lane line reel, a spare lane line or two, and cool team gifts for every Otter swimmer. This year, we will also be unveiling our new electronic timing system, which was made possible through the proceeds of last year’s All-Star Meet. In addition to subsidizing the purchase of team gifts for every swimmer, we are also hoping to earmark the proceeds of this year’s meet for long-term capital improvements, which could include a new and larger trophy case for all the trophies the team has won over the years, a record board, and other repairs or improvements to our physical plant. These are items that benefit every swimmer and parent of our club, and that’s why we are hoping for the help of every Otter parent for this year’s meet, even if you do not have a child who participates in All-Stars.
Almost all of you marked an area that you would like to help with on your registrations. If you have not done so, please e-mail Kathy Wingert ASAP. We will have a tentative schedule of people available for perusal on Saturday. In the meantime, please double check your calendars for July 22nd. It is an "All Hands On Deck" event that needs contributions of reasonable amounts of time from many, many people. Last year, we received many compliments from other teams about many aspects of the meet, particularly our refreshment area. It was awesome! Thanks to our refreshment team and all of the other committees who planned for every contingency and executed so well. Now, let’s do it again!
If anyone has suggestions for making All-Stars run even more smoothly this year, please pass them on to Barb Bohn. She will be contacting most of the key leaders for this event in the very near future.
