Otter Newsletter for the Week of July 9, 2007

Congratulations, Otters, on your victory over Halifax/Millersburg on Saturday.  And congratulations and THANK YOU to all of our wonderful parent volunteers who again made our home meet “happen.”  We are now 4-0 as we head into our last dual meet against Hershey Aquatic Club this Saturday.

This upcoming week, and those that follow, are busy, so sit back with your calendar and iced coffee for this newsletter.  Here we go:

The Middletown 10 and under Invitational is Tuesday, July10, for those that signed up with Jim.  Warm-ups begin at 5:25.  The meet starts at 6.  Directions are available on www.swimmpsl.org.

The Willowood Invitational is Wednesday, July 11, for those that signed up with Jim.  Warm-ups are from 4-4:20 p.m.  Directions are available at www.swimwillowood.org.

We will follow the same procedure for our home meet this Saturday as we have in our previous home meets, with two exceptions, noted below in bold.

--Swimmers, you should have already signed up to swim.  If you haven’t, call Jim immediately at 867-4918.  Be at the pool by 7:15.  The meet starts at 8:30.

--Parents.  Like last week, we need--

 1) Big, strong dads and other helpers to arrive at the pool on Friday night at 7:45 to begin setting up and, eventually, installing the bulkhead.  Dads, this usually ends up being a lot of fun for the men, who often go out to Napoli’s afterwards. (Yes, that’s later than last week.)

 1) Parents to sign up to work the meet.  In addition to the personnel we need at away meets, we have additional needs for bake sale workers, runners, announcers, and computer gurus.  Sign up on the sheets at practice.

 3) Food for the bake sale.  If we don’t have it, we can’t sell it, and your kids can’t eat it.  Instead of assigning items to people, we ask you to sign up in a donation slot on the bake sale “needs sheets” at practice.  If you have more than one child, we appreciate if you sign up for two slots.  Even if your child is not swimming in the meet, your contribution to the bake sale table is expected and appreciated. So far this year, our bake sales have been awesome!  Thanks to all who contribute and organize.

 4) Senior Information for Senior Recognition—We always like to recognize our graduated seniors and their parents at our last home meet.  So parents of seniors, we need the goods on them.  Tell us who raised them (that’s you!), where and how long they’ve been swimming, where they’re off to this fall, to study what, and any other info you think is pertinent.  Email that info to Kathy Wingert, dkwingert@comcast.net, by Thursday.

 Upcoming fun nights:

Sunday, July 15—Otter Family Night at Hersheypark—Buy your tickets and meet at the front gates/turnstiles at 4:45 p.m.

Monday, July 16—8’s, 10’s, and 12’s Mini-Golf Night at Yogi’s.  Meet at 5:30 at Yogi’s.  Golf is the coaches’ treat; bring $$ if you’d like ice cream afterwards.

Tuesday, July 17—Cook-out and swim night at the pool for the 14’s and unlimiteds from 6-8.  Bring your pool pass and your appetite.  Jim is cooking.

The All-Star Meet is fast approaching.  Pam Long is coordinating the sale of meet t-shirts and sweatshirts.  The design is viewable on our website and at practice.  The cost of All-Star t-shirts is $15 ($17 for XXL and XXXL) and $25 ($27) for hooded sweatshirts.  The deadline for ordering for delivery before the All-Star Meet is Wednesday, July 11.  After that date, you will only be able to order shirts for delivery AFTER the meet.  We will have no extra stock to sell on meet day.  Pre-payment by check made out to LVST is required.  A substantial portion of the profits from the sale of these items goes to our team.

You can also order Divisional shirts at practice.  Sign up by Wednesday, and make your checks out to LVST.  The Halifax/Millersburg team gets the profits from the sale of these shirts.

Our team banquet/ picnic/ pool fun night is set for Wednesday evening, July 25.  David Gardner is coordinating a slide show presentation for that evening, but he needs your pictures.  Please send digital pictures to David’s email, dmg002@lvc.edu, or even better, burn him a disk and give it to him.

We are looking for someone with a flatbed trailer for the moving of bleachers from LVC to the pool early evening on Saturday, July 21, for the All-Star Meet the next day.   If you have access to such a trailer, email Barb Bohn at barb@shining-light.com.

That’s all, folks.
