Otter Newsletter for Week of July 10, 2005

Good job, swimmers, on your meet with Palmyra.  While we came up short on the score, your wonderful Otter spirit was evident to all.  You are a great bunch of kids!  (And we’ll get ‘em next time!)  Results will be posted on the Otter website as soon as we receive them from Palmyra.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of the parents who attended our poolside parents’ meeting and volunteered to serve for the All-Star Meet.  You filled many of our open slots and helped establish the groundwork for a successful meet.  If you didn’t sign up to serve, please call Kris Fox at 867-5781.  No matter what your limitations are, we can find a way to use your help.  Remember what your grandma used to say (at least mine did!): many hands make light work.  The All-Star Meet is a wonderful opportunity for our team to maintain its financial solvency.

There are two invitationals this week for those that signed up previously at practice:

Tuesday, July 12—Middletown.  Be there at 5:20.   Warm-ups start at 5:40.  The meet starts at 6:00.

Wednesday, July 13—Willowood.  Be there at 3:50 for 4:00 warm-ups.  The meet starts at 5:00.

********* For both meets, please come prepared to pay your entry fees. ********

Saturday’s meet is at home against HersheyWe need you to serve our team in the following ways:

1) Make sure your child has signed up to swim (yes or no) by Tuesday.

2) If you are the parent of a senior swimmer, by Wednesday, please email Kathy Wingert  a short bio of your swimmer, including their future plans and their years of service on the team.  This will help us prepare for senior recognition on Saturday and properly engrave senior gifts for banquet night.

3) Sign the volunteer boards for the meet or call Kris Fox with your offer of help. (867-5781)

4) Help us set up the pool on Friday night.  We will begin set-up at 8:00 p.m., and, in particular, we are looking for more than a few good men.  If the weather is rainy, we may be able to start setting up earlier.  Call the pool if in doubt.  (867-1591)

5) Purchase the appropriate bake sale items based on the list below.  Label your items and bring them to the bake sale on Saturday morning.

6) Have your swimmer at the pool by 7:15 on Saturday morning.  Get ready to work a shift and cheer the Otters on!  The meet starts at 8:30.

Divisional Championships are Saturday, July 23rd, at Palmyra.  Your child is eligible to participate in this meet, which is a qualifier for All-Stars, if he or she has swum in at least three dual meets.  Jim will be accepting event preferences at practice this week.   Jim must turn in our team entries this weekend, so don’t delay!

“Otter Golf Night with the Coaches” is set for Tuesday, July 19th, at 5:45 at Yogi’s.  Golf is the coaches’ treat.  Bring money if you’d like ice cream afterwards.  Golf Night is for 8, 10, and 12 and unders.

All-Star T-Shirts and Sweatshirts may be preordered now.  That way, you can assure that you will be able to buy the size and item of your choice.  T-Shirts are $10, and sweatshirts are $20.  You may check out the design and sign the preorder form at practice this week.  Make your check payable to “LVST.”  We regret that we cannot place an order without prepayment.

One of our team mothers, Deb Cassel, has been photographing our Otters in action at swim meets.  She runs a wonderful photography business.  You can view and order prints of your swimmer at www.luviaimaging.com.   She will also be photographing the All-Star meet and will accept requests.
