Otter Newsletter for Week of February 10, 2008

Championship Week is here! Here is what you need to know:

---There are modifications to the practice schedule this week. On Friday evening, there will be only two practice sessions. Advanced/older swimmers will practice from 4:30-5:45. Younger swimmers will practice from 5:45-6:30.

---Divisionals are Saturday, February 16 at Palmyra High School, 1125 Park Drive
Palmyra, PA. To get to the meet, from Annville, take 422 west towards Palmyra. Turn left at the red light at the intersection of 422 and South Forge Road (PA 117). Go .6 miles to East Hemlock Street and turn right. Go .3 miles and turn left onto Park Ave. The pool is in the back of the school, and kids are housed in an adjacent gym in between events.

The meet is conducted in two sessions.
Morning session: 8’s and 10’s should arrive by 7:30 to check in with the coaches. Warm-ups begin promptly at 7:45, and the meet begins at 9. Volunteers for this session are: Timers: Russ St. Clair, Peter Harris, Scott Rode, Mike Behrens; Officials: Mark Schug, Gil Weik; Ribbons: Mindy Nguyen, Gretchen Mosby. Rosemary Jones has volunteered to distribute t-shirts to those who preordered them.

Afternoon session: 12’s, 14’s, and unlimiteds should arrive by 11:30. Warm-ups begin promptly at 11:45. The meet starts at 1:00. Volunteers for this session are: Timers: Keith Harmon, Mark Silcox, Gerri Brennan, Deb Schug; Officials: Maureen Rudy, Pete Pityk; Ribbons: Arlene Silcox, Kathy Shaheen. Rosemary Jones has volunteered to distribute t-shirts to those who preordered them.


---All-Stars are Sunday, February 17, at Cumberland Valley High School, 6746 Carlisle Pike, Mechanicsburg, PA. Participants for this meet are chosen based upon their performances at their divisional meet on Saturday. The top twelve (12) individuals and the top (6) relays from the combined results of all five (5) divisions of the Central Pennsylvania Aquatic League qualify for the All Star Meet. All-Star qualifiers are posted on the league website—www.swimcpal.org-- on Saturday evening.

To get to Cumberland Valley High School from Annville, take 934 south. Exit 934 to enter I-81 south. Follow I-81 south for approximately 28 miles. Take Exit 57, for PA 114. At the top of the ramp, turn left and follow PA 114 for 1.9 miles. Turn right onto the Carlisle Pike/US 11. The entrance for the Cumberland Valley campus is 1.8 miles farther on Rt. 11, on the right. Once you enter the campus, follow the signs for the natatorium.

This meet is also conducted in two sessions. For the a.m. sessions, qualifying 8’s and 10’s should arrive by 8:00 a.m. for 8:15 warm-ups. The meet begins at 9. Volunteers for this session are: Timers: Gary Peters and Kris Fox; Official: Mark Schug. For the p.m. session, qualifiying 12’s, 14’s, and unlimiteds should arrive at 1:05 for 1:20 warm-ups. The meet begins at 2:10. Volunteers for this session are: Timers: Barb Bohn and Mark Silcox; Officials: Kathy Wingert and Lisa Gehenio.

---End of year Banquet—Our end-of-year awards night and banquet is Friday, March 7, in the arena. Due to other activities at the college, our agenda will be slightly different this year. All –Star qualifiers should arrive by 5:30 for news photos. Everyone else should arrive by 5:45, because awards will begin promptly at 6:00 sharp. After the awards ceremony, we will enjoy a buffet. Following the buffet, at 8 p.m., we will honor our senior swimmers. The cost of the banquet is as follows: Swimmers are free, as are any siblings under five. All other attendees (parents and family members 5 and up) are $7.50. (This cost covers the food, as well as the special chairs and tables we are required to use on the arena floor.) To attend the banquet, you must RSVP by February 25 so that we can order food and seating. To RSVP, fill out the form below and mail it, along with your check made out to LVST for any non-swimmers attending, to Lynne Gryboski, 427 W. Locust St., Cleona, PA 17042. Please do not hand in the form to the coaches or officers at practice. The mail-in reservation method saves confusion for all those planning the banquet.
