Otter Newsletter for Week of February 8, 2009

The practice schedule this week is “business as usual” with the exception of Friday, February 13.  On that evening, practice is for the ADVANCED and OLDER GROUPS ONLY from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., as Mary and our college assistant coaches are away at college championships that evening.  (Good luck Dutchman swimmers!)

Speaking of championships, Championship Weekend is here!  Both the divisional and all-star meets are being held at Cumberland Valley High School, where our first dual meet was held back in December.  Both meets are divided into two sessions, 8s and 10s in the morning and 12s, 14s, and unlimiteds in the afternoon.

 For Divisionals (Saturday, February 14):

--The morning session swimmers should arrive by 7:55; the meet begins at 9.  Volunteers slated by the host team for the morning session are: Officials—Gil Weik and Gregg Martino; timers—Russ St. Clair, Nicole Enigk, and Scott Rode.

--Afternoon session swimmers should arrive by 11:55; the meet begins at 1:00 p.m.  Volunteers slated by the host team for the afternoon session are: Officials—Sandy Neidlinger; timers—Tom Swavely, Jess Dreibelbis, and Kris Fox.

--At last report, swimmers are to be housed on deck at Cumberland Valley, with a section of the bleachers used for seeding.

 For All-Stars (Sunday, February 15):

--Qualifiers will be posted on the CPAL website, www.swimcpal.org, on Saturday evening.  The top 16 individual swimmers and the top 8 relays in each event from ALL five divisional championship meets on Saturday qualify for All-Stars.  If your child is swimming at Divisionals but does not intend to swim at All-Stars, you must let Jim know immediately.

--Morning session swimmers should arrive at 7:50; the meet begins at 9.  Volunteers slated by the host team have not yet been posted.  They will be posted on the league website later this week.  Our submitted morning volunteers include: Deb Schug, Mark Schug, and Terrence Mosby

--Afternoon session swimmers should arrive at 12:50; the meet begins at 2:30.  Volunteers slated by the host team have not yet been posted.  They will be posted on the league website later this week.  Our submitted afternoon volunteers include: Gary Peters, Gerri Brennan, and Kathy Wingert.

--At last report, the host team will not be providing seeding for this meet, except in the chairs behind the blocks.  Swimmers will be housed on deck and in the auxiliary gym, which will include live audio feed so that swimmers know what event is currently swimming.

For both meets:

--If you have a meet day emergency (your child who is scheduled to swim wakes up sick or you have a flat tire on the way to the meet), call Jim’s cell phone at 270-7012 or David’s cell phone at 644-1220.

-- To get to Cumberland Valley High School from the LVC pool, take 81 South to the Mechanicsburg (Rt. 114) exit.  At the light at the top of the exit ramp, turn left onto 114 and follow for several miles until you hit the intersection of 114 with Rt. 11. There will be a Giant Foods/Sheetz to your right and Silver Springs Commons on your left.  At the red light of the intersection of 114 and Rt. 11, turn right onto Rt. 11.  Follow Rt. 11 through two traffic lights.  You will see Cumberland Valley High School on your right.  Turn right into the complex, and follow the directions for the Natatorium.  (After turning into the Cumberland Valley complex, you will end up circling around the building counterclockwise to park near the tennis courts.  Use the entrance that has a large “CV” above it.)

The Otter team banquet for competitive swimmers and their families is Friday, March 6, at the Sports Center. Cost of the Banquet for non- competitive swimmers is: Adults: 9.00; Children: (Ages 6-12) 5.00; Little Children: (5 and under) Free.  There is no charge for competitive swimmers on the Otter roster.  To attend the banquet, you must make and prepay a reservation with Rachiele Peters.  Rachiele’s email address is rachiele_peters@pasd.us.  All checks should be made payable to LVST and either given to Rachiele, placed in the “Peters” folder, or mailed to Rachiele at 1114 Cedar Crest Drive, Lebanon, PA 17046.  The deadline for reservations is February 20.  Summer registration materials will be available at this time.

Kris Fox is collecting money for the coaches’ gift.  If you would like to thank our wonderful coaches for their dedication to your kids, you may give Kris your monetary donation at practice or at Divisionals and All-Stars, or snail mail it to her address at: 1445 S. White Oak Street, Lebanon, Pa 17042.
