Otter Newsletter for Week of December 9, 2007
Congratulations, Otters, on your win over Palmyra last Saturday. And THANK YOU
to the many parents who stepped in and served as volunteers. Some families came
to help even though their kids were not swimming. Other volunteers worked the
entire meet because there was no one willing to relieve them at their position.
To all of you who made the meet possible by serving your kids and your team,
thanks. And to those who were unable to help last time, you get a second chance
. . .
Our second meet of the season is this Saturday, December 15, at home against
Mechanicsburg. Swimmers should arrive no later than 7:15 a.m. The meet starts at
8:30.
In preparation for Saturday’s meet, please do the following:
1) Sign up your kids to swim! Monday, December 10, is the deadline to let the
coaches know whether your swimmer will attend this meet. Please make sure the
box next to your swimmer’s name is checked “yes” or “no” by tonight’s practice.
The sign up sheets have been moved from the fitness center desk to the pool deck
with Jim. If you have not yet signed up (yes or no) and you will not be at
practice tonight, email Jim at jgardner@acschools.org to let him know your
intentions. High school swimmers: Please contact Jim with your intentions. For
the last meet, he was forced to make many phone calls because swimmers did not
call him. Save your coach’s sanity; let him know today!
2) Sign yourself up to help. It takes a lot of bodies to run these home meets.
We need timers, officials, announcers, runners, kid choralers, bake sale
workers, line up ladies, and set up and tear down folks. Lisa Alexander will
have a volunteer sheet out beginning Monday. Many of these jobs require no
expertise, just a willing spirit. At the last meet, we had particular shortages
in the ribbon and tear down areas. Both of these jobs can be done by someone
with young children. Please serve your team!
3) Shop for your assigned items for the Otter bake sale. Here are the
assignments:

sale, you’ll get first crack at them! Hint, hint!)
The Elizabethtown Frosty Frolic is an optional invitational swim meet for kids
ages ten and younger as of January 6, the day of the meet. The meet is fun for
young swimmers, because they only swim kids their exact age (i.e., 6 year olds
swim only other 6 year olds). There is a small fee per event. If your swimmer
would like to participate, please sign up with Jim by this Saturday.
